Assessment of Transdermal Penetration Enhancement by Topical Pharmaceutical Excipients Using Skin PAMPA Method

In this work, Topical Drug Delivery is highlighted in a joint study with Pion, Inc. to evaluate the permeability of an API (sodiumibuprofen) across an artificial skin-mimetic membrane assisted by various dermatology excipients as a means to assess their use as skin penetration enhancers for topical application. Three broad classifications of materials were tested, emollients as the classical penetration enhancer, as well as solvents and emulsifiers for use in a wide variety of topical product forms.
