Please join us as Dr. Rebeca Ruiz, Pion's Analytical Services Manager, and her colleague, Dr. Clara Rafols from the University of Barcelona, discuss utilizing the SiriusT3 for pKa, log P/D and solubility studies.
Rebeca Ruiz obtained her European PhD in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Barcelona in Spain. Her thesis and Master's were focused mainly in pKa (ionisation constant) analysis studying a diversity of techniques, media and different calculation approaches. Lipophilicity and solubility also formed part of her doctorate and she has published her work in internationally recognised scientific journals. In 2003 Rebeca spent one year at Pion as part of her doctorate and joined Pion full-time in 2009.
Clara Ràfols has been a professor at the Universitat de Barcelona since 1997 and Full Professor since 2020. She is a member of the Research Group, “Physicochemical Characterization and Estimation of the Biological Activity of Bioactive Compounds”, that is part of the Institute of Biomedicine of the University of Barcelona (IBUB). The research lines have been focused on the study of acid-based equilibria in non-aqueous and mixed solvents and the solute-solvent interactions in these media, including relevant biological fluids. Current work is directed towards the physicochemical characterization of active principles in the drug discovery process and of potential contaminants in the environment by means of analytical techniques, where she is the Leader of Research Projects on Solubility, Lipophilicity and drug-drug interactions. Her collaboration with Pion began in 2002 and continues to this day.
